Rumors had been circulating for over a year as the ORACLE team steadily received examples of MySQL’s dominance from all apects of software design. Executives at this quarter’s share holder meeting were fretting the imminent announcement of their failure to surpass the MySQL super-mogal persona it has been in competition with for quite some time.

Hello Everyone,
This is my first release of an open source project ever so you’ll have to fill me in on what you need to clarify how to use TextBoxMoo.0

What is it?
TextBoxMoo.0 is a Class that replaces all text editing nodes, TextBox and TextArea-Less typing on a web page, type text using the DOM to create and style the text you are typing vs. a text box/text area browser controls.

How mature is it?
Not even a fetus yet, it’s actually more like an embryo waiting to be attacked by well.. (let’s not get weird) developers.

Demo?
Yes, http://www.portlandwebdev.com/charlen.php
Go there and just start typing. When you click save page, it will save to http://www.portlandwebdev.com/savepage.php
Check out your changes on that page.

Possibilities:
More powerful controls that are not reliant on inserting a perfectly styled and dimensioned text box only to let the user input some text and then take that value to insert it back… uuggghhH!!!!

Less complicated CMS’.

Less dependency on archaic text controls!

Setup and install is mindless.

My mom could install and use this OS with no problems. Is she going to update her video card drivers? No.

The only CON was having to install flash, which was not easy. So work needs to be done there.

These errors would be another guess and check game for hours and hours. Luckily FireBug for FireFox showed me the requests being made in the console and the data returned by those requests. I was shown the errors my datastore was returning and I was quickly able to mitigate the issues.

This has got to be the best thing ever! Apple has just released the new beta of their new iPhone 3.0 software and I have just installed it.

First of all, I had some serious trouble with my battery life and I read that the Integrated Circuit that controls how the phone is charged can get messed up. Looks like the update has resolved that issue.

Useful features include:

Search - It searches EVERYTHING on your phone just as it does on the OS X finder!
Copy and Paste - Takes some getting use to but I think they did a great job.

More to come!

PHP and CSS are polar opposites but come together like Studio 54’s intro and extroverted management duality.

CSS has made the internet attractive, if not beautiful. I say attractive because it still doesn’t beat a sunset on the beach, but it is certainly light years from where it was when we were using < font > tags at angelfire or geocities. CSS has made countless things possible for interactive design and the internet would be nowhere without it.

Lets all have a big cheers! for CSS!!!! corny?

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a great way of writing your JavaScript code. We use the technique when using MooTools FX libraries. That’s right, we are mad for milk and have never needed to leave the farm in search of a jQuery, though, from what I see they are basically identical. JSON makes sense of your code when creating objects, it’s basically what ruby on rails supposedly does for PHP but that remains to be seen in our eyes.

JSON is not something you’ll directly interact with and some use it without even knowing simply by copying or modifying a code example using the technique. JSON spans multiple languages so it’s not limited to just JavaScript.

JSON is obviously the way you will be programming your next JavaScript application so you might as well read up on it!

If you find it impossible to get certain items to lay on top of each other in a predictable way, you can always fall back on creating the element further down in your code and absolutely position it wherever you please. There are a few tricks to use in different design layouts, which I will discuss.

if you are using this in a centered div then automatically you are probably thinking this will not work because you must specify top or bottom and left or right parameters. Wrong! Just absolutely position the element, do not specify top; right; bottom; or left parameters, and instead, specify margins! This way the element will move along with your centered div layout as the window is resized or opened in resolutions different from the developer’s machine.

If you have a left justified web site that does not move when the window is resized then forget the margins and only specify that the element is absolutely positioned. That should bring it right to the top.

If many absolutely positioned elements are on top of each other and you want them arranged in a different order, z-index isn’t always the most reliable (especially in ie6), so all you have to do is move the code for the element further down in the page than the element you want behind it, absolutely position them and set the margins, BAM! Problem solved!

When most people want to execute javascript from a piece of text they usually use the tag. But they dont want the link to go anywhere so they use a the number symbol # in the href attribute to specify that nothing happens when it’s clicked. That is what in some web applications you will notice the address bar contains a number symbol # at the end ie. portlandwebdev.com/here.php#. This is the improper use of the anchor functionality and if you have a page that scrolls vertically you will notice some unexpected scrolling or jumping when clicking on links that have number symbol # hrefs specified. Instead of trying to get a pointer using this buggy technique, just use css to force the cursor on mouseover.
